Profile of Michael B. Gellis, M.D.
Dr. Gellis was born in New York City in 1946. He received a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medicine and Zoology from the University of Michigan in 1964. In 1971, Dr. Gellis graduated from Wayne Sate University School of Medicine and began his residency at Beaumont Hospital. After training in general surgery at Beaumont Hospital, Dr. Gellis was chosen by Dr. Robert Pool to be the first plastic surgery resident. Dr. Gellis completed his plastic surgery training in 1976 and became board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1977. He has been a full-time plastic surgeon at Beaumont Hospital since then, assuming the position of Chairmanship of Plastic Surgery 5 years ago when Dr. Pool retired. Having had complete training in plastic surgery, Dr. Gellis has performed a variety of plastic surgery related cases including hand surgery, microsurgery, burn surgery, surgery for congenital deformities, reconstructive surgery of all types, skin cancer surgery, and all areas of cosmetic surgery. His many publications and national presentations include hand surgery, reconstruction of burns, breast cancer reconstruction, breast reduction methods, and all areas of cosmetic surgery. Among the many associations with which he is affiliated are: the American Medical Association, the Michigan State Medical Society, the Oakland County Medical Society, the American Society of Plastic Surgery, and the Michigan Academy of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Gellis has also been Chairman of the Medical-Legal Committee of the Oakland County Medical Society. Dr. Gellis lives in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, with his wife and daughter.
