Dr. Balliro was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 13, 1952. After completing undergraduate requirements in biology and chemistry at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Brandeis University, he attended the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree in May of 1978. He then spent 6 years at the University of Florida training in general and peripheral vascular surgery, with specific sub-specialty training in the surgical treatment of obesity (bariatric surgery). After completion of this training, he began private practice in Tallahassee, FL in 1984. After 17 years of continuous practice in Florida, he joined Jackson Hole Surgery. Dr. Balliro is certified and re-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. He maintains practice interests and sub-specialization in the area of bariatric surgery. Dr. Balliro has had extensive training and experience in bariatric (obesity) surgery. This specialized aspect of general surgery was an integral part of his training at the University of Florida. His personal series of cases of various types of these procedures numbers over 2500, including over 750 cases of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Dr. Balliro manages a comprehensive bariatric surgery program including dietary consultation, support services, psychological and exercise counseling. Please see links below for further information.
